The National Association of Realtors, whose members are known as Realtors, is North America's largest trade association, representing over 1 million members (as reported in 2006), including NAR's institutes, societies, and councils, involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries. NAR also functions as a Self Regulatory Organization for real estate brokerage. If you are looking at buying a home in California, you are probably deciding whether you want to hire a real estate agent or not. It is becoming progressively easier to look up houses on line and buy houses without an agent all together. Due to legal liability, many agents will hesitate to recommend a certain individual or company over another, but they do know which vendors have a reputation for efficiency, competency and competitive pricing. Agents can, however, give you a list of references with whom they have worked and provide background information to help you make a wise selection.
